It
is important to bear in mind that any type of leather can be "good" or
"bad", the quality is determined by careful selection of the finest
hides (in terms of grades) and by the type of tanning process employed.
The tanning process - which is the curing of the hides - is extremely
important as it ensures durability. A proper tanning will preserve the
original softness of the skins preventing them from hardening and
cracking with time; it also prevents colours from fading or bleeding;
finally it prevents water from leaving permanent marks on skin surfaces
(refer to clothing section).
All our products are tanned according to the traditional
"Florentine Tanning Process", an art which has roots that date back to
the middle ages and has been passed down to the tanners of today: this
process involves using exclusively vegetable extracts without employing
any chemical substances that can be harmful to man.
